Buffalo River

We had a grand time at our Spring Break get-away near the Buffalo River in Arkansas.

Day 1 - About a 2 mile hike... we figured we wouldn't make it all the way to our point and back before dark, so we turned our hike into a loop... taking an explorative 5 year old and a tired 3 year old down a 50+ foot, 80 degree slope is lots of fun!!! But we all made it and probably won't ever forget it!



Day 2
Morning - Rename us Spelunkers! We found low caves, huge caves (that's Garey and Garett in the middle of the picture!), dark caves, and wet caves... (I'm starting to sound like a Dr. Seuss story!) In the back of the dark, wet cave was a waterfall that you could hear, but only barely see with flashlights. After Garey and I took Garett back in there, Garett took Nanny (his Grandma) all by himself! The picture is me, Papa, and Emmy coming out of the mouth of the cave. The cave went back at least 100 feet and in some places was only 3 feet high (we all had to crawl)before opening up into the big waterfall room.




Afternoon - From spelunkers to waders... we took a hike along what we now know was a horse trail... so it wasn't the nice foot paths of previous hikes... but fun none-the-less to search for and then follow the trail markers (even across the river 3 times!)... At least we did this hike last so we didn't have to put on wet boots for the rest of the trip!


Day 3 - Back to spelunking... but this time a guided tour... pretty, but not the same adventure!
