This year we went to explore the oldest mountains in North America... at least that is what they claim! (Maybe my geologist friends can authenticate this...)
During our treks, our esteemed leader (armed with GPS) kept us on track and didn't lead us in too many circles!
He did have help however keeping track of where we were...
Some of the places we went...
A common sight for the adults... the kids climbing off ahead... when we weren't snacking, we were making a pretty good pace... It's hard to slow down two kids (mountian goats)!
We almost got lost in the fog at the top of Elk Mountain. This picture was at noon!
The visitor center revealed my "deer" children!
Among our hiking, we found lots of evidence of wildlife... tracks, uprooted vegatation, chips, etc... but the most memorable moment was on the last hike of the trip, we topped the last hill on the way back the car, and there in our way was a lone bison. Thankfully he was more interested in his lunch than us, but we still gave him a wide berth!
Well, most of us did... Nanny and Papa got this close...
These were the other plentiful and dangerous things we came across...
And at the end of the day we were all tired, but the views were still beautiful!
